“So Long and Thanks for Nothing” in Evergreen Review

Tell people that “Mother Earth” is wounded and needs their help, and wallets open. Tell them that the problem with the environment is a result of multiple capitalist systems crashing and burning at once, and eyes glaze over.

I wrote “So Long, and Thanks for Nothing,” for the storied Evergreen Review. It’s part of a sustained series on the pandemic, edited by my friend and comrade Dale Peck. I was so deeply honoured that the piece was illustrated by the amazing Kelly Heaton, and I remain, as always, awestruck by the fact that I’m published in one of the world’s most historic and gorgeous publications.
