Tell people that “Mother Earth” is wounded and needs their help, and wallets open. Tell them that the problem with the environment is a result of multiple capitalist systems crashing and burning at once, and eyes glaze over.
I wrote “So Long, and Thanks for Nothing,” for the storied Evergreen Review. It’s part of a sustained series on the pandemic, edited by my friend and comrade Dale Peck. I was so deeply honoured that the piece was illustrated by the amazing Kelly Heaton, and I remain, as always, awestruck by the fact that I’m published in one of the world’s most historic and gorgeous publications.
