A “Curvey” nomination AND an “amicable discussion about smashing capitalism in history” in Time Out Chicago!

It has been a while since I posted here, but now that the Against Equality book is published, things will start winding down and I will be posting with the same regularity. Much has been happening, and here are just a couple of highlights.

It has been a while since I posted here, but now that the Against Equality book is published, things will start winding down and I will be posting with the same regularity. Much has been happening, and here are just a couple of highlights.

In this week’s news: I was a finalist in the first Curve magazine Annual Lesbian Awards (category: Print Media Journalist).  The award went to Victoria Brownworth, but I was in pretty good company with the other finalists: Achy Obejas, Ariel Levy, Deb Price, and Louise Rafkin.  I couldn’t have remembered my third-grader teacher’s name (probably for good reason) for the acceptance speech, should I have received the “Curvey,” but thanks for the nomination, Curve!  My picture’s on page 26 of the 20th anniversary issue.

There’s more: the book tour for Against Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage kicked off last week, and I was interviewed by Time Out Chicago’s Books Editor Jonathan Messinger in anticipation of the Chicago release event.  Messinger and I talked for over half an hour, and the resulting piece is a very cogent distillation of our conversation.  I especially love his description of it as “the most amicable discussion about smashing capitalism in history.”
